To hike from the top of the steps down the federal path to the Scenic Railway probably took me about 80-100 minutes. So, if your intent is to climb up -make sure you take your time and you are in good fitness. The steps at the Giant Stairway and Furber Steps are challenging. If you follow proper hiking etiquette, the right-of-way belongs to those ascending the steps as you don't want to break the momentum of someone climbing. This will require that you have some level of etiquette for those coming up or going down the stairs - you will have to wait on other people. There are some great places to stop along the way with benches to sit on and just look across the valley -but, these are few and the views are usually obscured a bit by trees/branches. The steps don't actually go to the valley floor - maybe not even halfway. You can hike down the stairs and back up the stairs or take the Federal Path to the Furber Steps up/down as well without buying a ticket to Scenic World - it is your choice depending on how much time you have and your fitness level. So, I decided to leverage all options at Scenic World so I could see as much as possible.
So, make sure you plan your trip - I knew I did not have much time. I had a ticket with Scenic World, so it made the trip back up way easier. I was intrigued about the Giant Stairway.
